I am a family law lawyer who is originally from Toronto. I have 20 years of experience practicing family law.
I went to Queen’s University for my Bachelor of Arts (honours) and for law school. I was called to the Bar in 2002. I started practicing for a high end boutique law firm in Toronto in 2003 where I worked on many high profile family law cases, including the widely publicized Pakka v. Nygard trial. In 2005 I moved to Montreal to complete a Masters of Law in family law at McGill. My successful thesis advocated for mandatory legal representation for children in custody and access disputes and child protection proceedings. In 2006 I moved to Ottawa and joined the firm of Lang Michener LLP, practicing exclusively family law there until 2011. I joined Victor Vallance Blais LLP in September, 2011 as a partner in order to expand my family law practice in a small firm setting. In June, 2023 I started my own family law firm, Fleishman Family Law Professional Corporation.
I really enjoy helping people and my clients have said that they find me very down to earth and easy to talk to. I often keep in touch with my clients long after I am done representing them. Separation and divorce is one of the most difficult events a person can go through. I am always happy to see people who I have helped come out the other side and who are able to successfully move on with their lives. I enjoy representing married couples, unmarried couples, same-sex couples and extended family members who may be applying for custody and/or access. I am very resolution minded and value the importance of reaching early and amicable settlements where possible.
I have argued cases at the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. I have spoken at conferences and written papers for the County of Carleton Law Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
I love spending time with family, playing softball, working-out and travelling.
